Do Ugly Sites Sell More?

Depends whats on them.
Content ,usability and readability will beat a pretty design hands down.
I've now been doing this for over 6 years and my first 3 very basic sites beat all my others hands down. First sites i had no experience at all and i look at them now and realise how "basic" they are but they have good content, usability and readability and i often get compliments from users for that.

I measure "pretty" and "pretty ugly" ONLY in terms of analytics. At the end of the day, if "pretty" sells more expensive homes than "ugly", fine--but it is measured in my favorite metric--closings!

There are a 1,000 fun analogies and more than a few jokes involving pretty and pretty ugly that I could use here. They all boil down to the same thing (essentially-grin).

"If it converts the MOST efficiently for my target market, SEOs well and brings closings, then put a bag over the screen if you don't like what it looks like!"

and then there's "Pretty often equals High Maintenace..." :-)

That having been said, all else being equal, why not take "pretty" as well...wouldn't you?
