Do's and Don'ts for interviewing with brokers?

keep the mindset that you're interviewing them more than they're interviewing you. have a list of questions written down on paper. let them see you take out your paper (preferably on a legal pad that you take out of a briefcase, messenger bag, or some other "business document holder") and ask them the questions and WRITE DOWN THEIR ANSWERS (i.e. you're prepared, organized, and mean business). let them know that you're interviewing multiple brokerages and you'll be in touch shortly to let them know where you'd like to hang your license. I don't think it's possible to interview at too many brokerages...the more people you talk to and interview, the better handle you'll have on the situation.

take charge of the interview...let them do the rap on their company and why you shouldn't even bother looking anywhere else because they're the best and blah blah...then do like you would in a listing presentation when the "chit chat" is over...sit up straight, take out your paper and pen, and get serious.

DO dress appropriately
DO have questions prepared in advance and written down
DO NOT forget to bring your own pen to write down their answers
DO interview as many brokers as possible
DO take your notes home and review them (preferably with somebody else to get a 3rd party perspective)
Oh...and one of my favorite questions to ask "if there was one question you think I should ask your competitor, what would it be?"...then add that question to your list for the next interview. the question that one broker gives you is usually just as insightful as the answer from the next one.
